DellOro reported a strong performance in the PON market in 2018Q4
Spending on PON devices, in particular GPON OLT(Optical Line Terminal) and ONT and 10g-epon devices, remained strong in the quarter, according to Dell ‘oro’s latest q4 2018 market report on broadband access. The strength in PON, along with DOCSIS 3.1 CPE devices, helped the global optical access device market grow 8 percent year-over-year to $3.4 billion in the quarter. Dell Oro research director noted that FTTH deployment continues to grow globally, with both 2.5g GPON and 10G EPON devices achieving year-on-year sales growth, particularly in China.Growth in the telecoms sector has made up for the decline in cable companies’ deployment.Sales of xDSL equipment grew 232 percent year-over-year in the quarter and VDSL grew 13 percent year-over-year as g.ast equipment shipments increased. Overall sales of xDSL devices increased 18 percent year-on-year.
