Introduction to the five main types of ONU device
SFU (Single Family Unit) type ONU device
Mainly used by individual home users, which only supports broadband access terminal function, the device has 1 or 4 Ethernet interfaces, providing Ethernet/IP services,supporting VoIP service (built-in IAD) or CATV service. It mainly used in FTTH occasions ( also can be used with a home gateway to provide greater business capabilities).
According to the difference between the service type and the number of ports of the ONU, there are three specific forms of the SFU-type ONU shown in Table 1.

HGU (Home Gateway Unit) ONU device
This mainly used for individual home users, with home gateway function, equivalent to home gateway with EPON uplink interface, with 4 Ethernet interfaces, 1 WLAN interface and at least 1 USB interface, providing Ethernet/IP services, which can support VoIP or CATV service and TR-069 remote management. The device mainly used in FTTH solutions.

MDU (Multi-Dwelling Unit) ONU device
This device mainly used for multiple residential users, with broadband access terminal function, multiple (at least 8) user-side interfaces (including Ethernet interface, ADSL2+ interface or VDSL2 interface), providing Ethernet/IP services and supporting VoIP services (built-in IAD) or CATV service, which mainly used in FTTB/FTTC/FTTCab.
According to the difference in service types and port numbers of the ONU, the form of the MDU-type ONU is shown in Table 3.

SBU (Single Business Unit) ONU device
The device mainly used for multiple enterprise users or individual users in the same area, with broadband access terminal function, multiple Ethernet interfaces (at least 8), E1 interface and POTS interface, providing Ethernet/IP services, TDM service and VoIP service (built-in IAD), which mainly used in FTTB/FTTBiz.
According to the difference between the service type and the number of ports of the ONU, there are two specific forms of the MTU-type ONU shown in Table 4.
