Introduction to the hierarchical model of GPON

GPON technical features are mainly reflected in the transmission convergence layer. The transmission aggregation layer is further divided into a PON frame sublayer and an adaptation sublayer. The framing sublayer of GTC (GPON Transmission Convergence) completes the ODN transmission function required for the encapsulation and termination of GTC frames. The specific functions of the PON (such as ranging, bandwidth allocation, etc.) are also terminated at the framing sublayer of the PON. The gametophyte layer is invisible. The adaptation sublayer of the GTC provides an interface between the PDU and the higher layer entity. The ATM and GEM information completes the conversion of the Service Data Unit (SDU) and the Protocol Data Unit PDU at the respective adaptation sublayers. The OMCI adaptation sublayer is higher than the ATM and GEM adaptation sublayers, which identify VPI/VCI and Port-ID and complete the exchange of OMCI channel data with higher-level entities.
Application of GPON in the access network GPON can be applied to fiber-to-the-home, fiber-to-building/roadside and fiber-to-transfer junction boxes in the access network.

1. FTTB for Business
Symmetric broadband services (such as Group Software, Content Broadcast, E-mail, file interaction, etc.) POTS and ISDN dedicated lines (GPON must be able to flexibly provide dedicated line services at different rates)

2. FTTC and FTTCab
Symmetric broadband services (such as digital broadcast services, VOD, IPTV, file downloads, online games, etc.) symmetric broadband services (such as Content Broadcast, E-mail, file interaction, distance education, remote diagnosis, etc.) POTS and ISDNxDSL extension

3. FTTH
Asymmetric broadband services (such as digital broadcasting services, VOD, IPTV, file downloads, etc.)
Symmetric broadband services (such as Content Broadcast, E-mail, file interaction, distance education, remote diagnosis, online games, etc.)
POTS and ISDN
