China Unicom's 10G PON is expected to be deployed in an interoperable manner in 2019

At the "2018 China Optical Network Seminar", Jia Wu, senior engineer of the Optical Access Network Room of the Network Technology Research Department of China Unicom Network Technology Research Institute, pointed out that after the previous laboratory tests and field tests, China Unicom completed the FTTH of 10G PON. Interoperable technical reserves.

In April 2018, China Unicom launched the collection and testing of different single-board OLTs such as XG-PON, Combo-PON and 10G EPON. The intercommunication function and performance test of multiple test cases have become mandatory requirements. Jia Wu said that it is expected that the FTTH of China Unicom's 10G PON will be deployed and deployed in 2019.
10G PON

Talking about the specific requirements of China Unicom's 10G PON deployment, Jia Wu said that China Unicom launched the mining test for 10G PON OLT in April 2018. For the 10G EPON symmetry requirements, the board should be able to support both symmetric and asymmetric technologies. The symmetrical/asymmetric optical modules can be replaced. The 10G EPON optical modules should use symmetric optical modules.

In terms of OLT requirements, it is preferred to purchase a new platform OLT with large switching capacity, high integration, and network slicing capability.
In terms of technical system selection, in the case of new OLT, considering that the number of domestic GPON parts is greater than EPON, it is not recommended to increase the deployment of 10G EPON in the original GPON area.
In terms of equipment selection, in the existing EPON area, symmetric 10G EPON will be used for construction; for existing GPON areas, GPON is currently used for FTTH construction; in the future, with the implementation of 500M and above access rate services, XG-PON (including Combo-PON) will be gradually adopted.

For FTTH ONT terminal selection, for users with access rates of 200M and below, ONTs should use EPON/GPON uplink HGU-type ONTs, which should have GE access ports; in 10G PON access areas with access rates of 500M and above. Users consider adopting 10G PON terminals, and EPON terminals should not be used for Gigabit access users. When the user speed is increased to 500M or higher, 10G PON should be adopted, and the uplink bandwidth of the OLT should be 10G link.
